Designer Spotlight – Annie Whitfield

Live Original Creative Interiors was founded in 2018 by Annie Whitfield after several of her own personal projects turned into income properties and she had repeated requests for help on remodels, new builds, styling and staging. Annie has always had a love for making people feel comfortable and design. Annie completed courses at The Interior Design Institute and has had over 7 years of real-world, home remodel experience. Live Original offers a range of services including general contracting services for full-scale remodels, styling, personal shopping, and new construction selections.

1. Go-to color for painting a kitchen?
This is a tough one! We have definitely moved on from all white everything, but still like to keep kitchens airy. A combination of stain and a lighter “color” is where we are landing on most projects these days. We usually do custom stains, and we even have a signature, custom “LO Paint Color” we use most of time.

2. Favorite part about interior design?
Hands down, our clients! I don’t know how we do it, but we manage to attract the best clients. We hear their goals for their space from the first consultation and we get to be there through the whole process until completion—that’s really awesome. We also love everyone on our construction team. We’ve worked with all of our people in the same trades for years now and we consider them true artists and part of our families!

3. How would you describe your style?
My style lands on the eclectic side, heavy on an “earthy” vibe. I love a lot of texture and light. I love using plants and natural materials to layer. I’m also not afraid of some color! I really enjoy finding pieces for my home that I connect with or something that has meaning. I love a good antique store find!

4. Favorite trend(s) of the year?
Another tough question, because I love going against the grain! I don’t like things to look like everyone else’s, so I don’t necessarily follow trends. But I do love how things have made a shift to warmer tones and using more color. Whenever my clients have concerns about trends, I always encourage them to do what they like - not what’s trending. The goal is to really enjoy your home - even if it’s not what influencers are pedaling.

5. What inspires you at the moment?
Honestly, any space that feels like “home.” Nothing too done up or up-tight with the design.
Casual and homey are always a homerun for me.

6. What kind of work do you usually prefer?
I love that we get to be a part of the design and the construction. Amy does a great job at our sketches and renderings so being able to see a space before and having it come to life just as we planned is really great. But as far as which room of the home, I love a good kitchen remodel!

Also, I find great joy in embracing projects that diverge from my usual style. The opportunity  to work on designs that challenge my comfort zone pushes me to exceed my own limits and  unleash my creativity. I thrive on the excitement of crafting something entirely fresh and  innovative, exploring uncharted territories within my field. These projects offer me a chance  to constantly reinvent myself and continually evolve as a designer. The thrill of stepping  outside my comfort zone is a challenge that I eagerly embrace, as it fuels my passion and  enables me to deliver unique and remarkable results.

7. What do you consider before designing?
Everyone uses their space so differently. What’s important to one client, might not be important to the next. So getting clear on what our client is using the space for is helpful. Everyone on our team brings so much expertise to the space that it makes it hard for anything to slip through the cracks. We really do try and think of everything! Staying on budget is also important to us. We provide detailed bids from the very beginning, which eliminates (most) surprises. I think that’s one of the reasons we get asked back time and again into our clients homes they know what to expect!
