Design trends for 2014

Spa style bathAustin sales associate Katy Kerbage recently attended a CEU class run by the ASID titled “Emerging trends in bath design.” These are some of the key current trends in the market which were highlighted during the CEU class:

COLOR. Pantone has named its color of the year as Radiant Orchid. Expect to see more of this vibrant purple shade appearing in designs this year. Grey and white remain core neutral colors in design, moving away from the beige of the 90’s.

SUSTAINABILITY. The trend for using sustainable and natural products continues to grow in popularity. Natural stone, such as granite and marble, is sustainable because it comes from the earth and lasts forever. Its forever lifecycle means it can also be repurposed, reducing waste and landfill.

FIXTURES. Stainless steel has been the standard color for kitchen and bath fixtures such as sinks and faucets for the past ten years and continues to be the standard. However, gold, bronze and copper finishes are becoming popular this year too.

BATHROOMS. The trend in bathrooms now is to create a space that feels more like a spa than a regular bathroom, with luxurious touches such as marble, gold tones and soothing colors. There has also been an increase in demand for waterfall shower heads, floor heaters and shower steamers.
